The Career Educator delivers individual and group sessions with quality and fidelity to the Concordance Re-Entry Model for participants in Phases 2 and 3. The Career Educator is responsible for facilitating group education and job training interventions at the Academy consistent with the participants of Now, Next, Later Career Blueprint.
- Facilitate Employment and Job Readiness (EJR) individual and group sessions from the Concordance Re-entry Model to quality and fidelity.
- Conduct assessments at the points of time identified in the Concordance Re-entry Model.
- Facilitate the development of the participants Now, Next Later portion of their Life Plan, evaluate participant Life Plan progress, refine goals as appropriate, and identify necessary support.
- Employ appropriate andragogy and motivational interviewing for participant progress and to encourage, and retain participants progressing through Phases 2 and 3 of the Academy and the development of their Life Plan.
- Participate in the coordination and integration of participants’ pre-release job readiness and education services into post-release within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Maintain quality and fidelity to manuals, assessments, and decision-making processes.
- Maintain and update records for assigned participants in the Concordance Academy Participant System on a timely basis.
- Work collaboratively with EJR team assigned to participants, providing input on progress through Concordance Re-Entry Model Phases to ensure coherency in instruction/learning pre-to-post release.
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with Academy participants, prison staff and administration, team members, volunteers, community partners, and adhere to Academy policies.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure Concordance Academy continues to be the best.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of high impact instructional practices and classroom management techniques.
- Knowledge of adult pedagogical strategies and principles.
- Knowledge of industry standards for occupations within the Academy’s guided employment pathways (e.g. retail, logistics, and foodservice).
- Ability to utilize online learning delivery and management systems for ACT WorkKeys and high-school equivalency curricula.
- Knowledge of andragogy and delivery of the manualized curriculum.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and develop appropriate role relationships.
- Skilled in writing and maintaining computer-based participant records in an accurate and timely manner.
- Knowledge of and impact of trauma and the ability to use appropriate de-escalation techniques.
- Ability to plan and organize work activities; manage several tasks at once; and routinely meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain performance and self-control under pressure or adversity
- Ability to work cooperatively with others from varied backgrounds and in different situations to accomplish the objectives to build and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships, leverage information, and achieve results.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or content area (English or Math)
- Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or content area (preferred)
- Experience delivering adult basic education and/or high school equivalency curricula
- Experience with special education, people with learning disabilities, or vulnerable populations
- Lived experience
Licensure & Certification:
- Teaching certificate or adult education certification
- Obtain and maintain Department of Corrections’ security clearance.
- Offenders Workforce Development Specialist certification (preferred)
